Sustainable agriculture plays a crucial role in addressing climate change, environmental degradation and global food security challenges. This chapter discusses the fundamental principles of sustainable agriculture, including soil health management, water conservation, biodiversity conservation, crop diversification and the use of organic inputs. Modern approaches such as climate-smart agriculture, precision agriculture, regenerative agriculture, circular agriculture and low-carbon farming are also highlighted. The chapter explores the potential of hydroponics and controlled environment agriculture as resource-efficient production systems. Furthermore, the application of advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), remote sensing, drones, robotics and explainable AI is examined. These technologies enhance resource use efficiency, productivity and decision-making in agricultural systems. Overall, integrating sustainable farming principles with emerging technologies offers a promising pathway toward resilient, productive and environmentally sustainable food systems.
