Abstract

This chapter of Recent Research Trends in Soil Science (Volume 1) emphasizes the importance of soil science research in overcoming the major global challenges like climate change, deterioration of soil health, soil pollution, land degradation etc.  It also states the importance of soil as a vital living entity or resource for both ecosystems and human health. The development of soil science from a conventional agricultural perspective to a multifaceted discipline is discussed, integrating biological, chemical, physical, geological, and technological components. The collection seeks to showcase recent developments across various subjects such as Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry; Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition; Soil Chemistry; Soil Biology and Biochemistry; Soil Physics; Soil Microbiology; Crop Improvement; Soil and Global Climate Change; Soil Ecology; Environmental Soil Science; Geology; Soil Technology; Soil Taxonomy; Soil Survey and Soil Classification; Land Use Planning; Soil Quality and Soil Health; Integrated Nutrient Management; Carbon Sequestration; Soil Pollution; Impact of Climate Change on Soil Ecosystem and additional topics. Each section presents priority and progress in permanent soil management. Targeting students, researchers, teachers, policy makers, etc, the collection encourages knowledge exchange and scientific cooperation, prepares a basis to reduce the necessary role of soil science in the 21st-century global stability, environmental welfare, and farming forward.
