Abstract

The use of agricultural chemicals, including pesticides, fertilizers, and other agrochemicals, has played a pivotal role in increasing food production and protecting crops from pests, diseases, and weeds. However, their excessive and improper use has resulted in significant environmental degradation and serious human health concerns. This chapter provides an in-depth exploration of the types and applications of agricultural chemicals, their contribution to crop productivity, and the adverse impacts they pose to ecological systems and human health. It also discusses mitigation strategies and emphasizes the need for sustainable practices to balance food security with environmental and health safety. The chapter aims to provide a balanced perspective, highlighting the importance of responsible and sustainable agricultural practices to minimize negative environmental impacts while ensuring food security.
